Hi, we are The Dolce Amore Family
It Started With Family. It Still Is.
Believe it or not, Dolce Amore began as a creative solution to a very real problem: what do you do with nine kids?
The Grippo family had no shortage of energy—or gelato. So in 2002, we opened our first shop on the corner of Commercial Drive and Graveley Street in East Vancouver. With training straight from Italy and a deep love for community, Dolce Amore became one of Vancouver’s very first authentic gelaterias.
From day one, it’s been a family affair. All nine Grippo kids rotated through shifts, learning the craft and the chaos of running a family business. Mamma Grippo helped too—though we had to keep her in the back, because her scoops were so big we nearly went out of business.
What started as a way to keep the family busy became something bigger: a neighborhood staple, a gathering place, a taste of Italy on the West Coast.
Dolce Amore Today
Today, Dolce Amore is more than just a gelateria. It's the umbrella that holds together everything we create—new concepts, new flavors, new ways of sharing our heritage. At the core, it’s still us: the same family, the same values, and the same love of bringing people together over something sweet.
One of our newest ventures, The Gelato Mafia, was inspired by a customer who once said, “You’ve got a whole mafia back there!” We took the name and ran with it—just a little more fun, a little more bold, but still very much part of the family.
Whether you know us as Dolce Amore or The Gelato Mafia, you’re always getting a piece of who we are: authentic, playful, and made with love.
From our family to yours—benvenuti.
